Q. What are the different types of Insl-X® Swimming Pool Paint?
A. There are four varieties of Insl-X® Pool Paint, each designed for specific pool coating projects.
- Insl-X Waterborne Pool Paint
- Insl-X Rubber-Based Pool Paint
- Insl-X Chlorinated Rubber Pool Paint
- Insl-X Epoxy Pool Paint
Q. What is the best way to apply Insl-X® Swimming Pool Paint?
A. Before applying Insl-X® Swimming Pool Paint, proper preparation is critical. Cracks, holes, and gouges should be filled. The pool’s surface should be cleaned of any oil, grease, wax, dust, dirt, mildew, suntan oils, or foreign coatings and contaminants prior to painting. If you have previously painted the surface, test to see what type of paint has already been applied to the surface.
To prepare for application, mix all paint containers together to ensure color uniformity and consistency.
Apply the paint with a brush, roller or spray. If painting by roller, use a 3/8" nap or less lambskin roller. Avoid using a long nap roller as it will cause chalking, blistering, and spread too much paint on the surface. For airless or convention spray application, refer to the Technical Data Sheet for specifications. If spraying, we recommend backrolling to ensure a consistent film build.
Q. How often should I repaint my pool with Insl-X® Swimming Pool Paint?
A. There are many factors that affect the life of pool paint, including number of coats applied, climate, strength of chlorination, chemical balance, exposure to direct sun, color selection, amount of pool use, and cleaning schedules.
Depending on conditions, you should expect anywhere from 3 to 5 years before having to repaint, however with so many variables, it’s impossible to predict a pool paint’s life.
That said, Insl-X® Pool Paints have been proven in the pool painting market for over 50 years and have been applied to tens of thousands of pools around the country.
Q. What are the safety precautions that I should take when using Insl-X® Swimming Pool Paints?
A. When applying Insl-X® Swimming Pool Paints, follow safety precautions. Use personal protective equipment as required. Wash your face, hands and any exposed skin thoroughly after handling. Wear face protection. Do not breathe in dust, fumes, gases, mists, vapors, and/or spray.
Keep the swimming pool paint away from heat, hot surfaces, sparks, open flames and other ignition sources. Take precautionary measures against static discharge. Learn more on the products Safety Data Sheet.
Q. Is Insl-X® Swimming Pool Paint safe for use in my swimming pool?
A. Yes. Insl-X® Pool Paint is specially formulated for use in swimming pools.
The only exceptions are heated pools, spas or hot tubs, where the water temperature exceeds 95°F (35°C).
Q. How many coats of Insl-X® Swimming Pool Paint do I need to apply?
A. When applying Insl-X® Pool Paint, two thin coats are recommended. Applying swimming pool paint too heavily can cause premature paint failure, which can include blistering. Follow the recommended spread rates listed on the product label.
Q. Which pool surfaces can be painted with Insl-X® Swimming Pool Paints?
A. Insl-X® Swimming Pool Paints are formulated to be applied to specific substrates like concrete, marcite and many others. Get more substrate details by product in the product guide.
Insl-X Waterborne Swimming Pool Paint can be applied over any previous pool paint—a distinction unique to it among the Insl-X Pool Paint line.
For best results, apply these paints to their particular substrates.
Q. Do I need to hire a professional to apply Insl-X® Swimming Pool Paints?
A. While you can hire a professional painting contractor to apply Insl-X® Pool Paints, it is possible to do it on your own as well. Be sure to follow the steps required to prepare and apply the paint to your swimming pool. If the substrate is in need of resurfacing, contacting a licensed pool contractor could help prevent premature failure.
Q. How do I maintain Insl-X® Swimming Pool Paint once it's been applied?
A. Insl-X® Swimming Pool Paint will be impacted by several factors, including the number of coats applied, climate, strength of chlorination, chemical balance, exposure to direct sun, color selection, amount of pool use, and cleaning schedules.
Take the time to inspect your pool’s coating at the end of the year when winterizing it.
In addition, the color of the pool paint may prematurely fade in spots due to exposure to concentrated chlorine. We recommend adding shock through a chlorinator or pouring it into the skimmer so it can dilute before hitting the painted surfaces of the pool.
Q. Is Insl-X® Swimming Pool Paint compatible with saltwater pools?
A. Yes, all Insl-X® Swimming Pool Paints are formulated for use in fresh and saltwater pools.
