Start with a Quality Primer
Successful paint projects—interior or exterior—start with a premium quality primer.
To transform the home’s interior walls and ceilings, the Fine Homebuilding team chose Ultra Spec® 500 primer. This primer is low VOC, fast-drying, and provides a uniform base for a smooth top coat.
For Top Coats, Play Around with Color and Sheen
On any remodel, top coats infuse color and sheen into a newly transformed space. For most of the home, the team chose Regal® Select Interior Paint in Chantilly Lace OC-65, an off-white shade with cool undertones that brighten each room. This color also allows for the space to be flexible on design opportunities.
As for finish, the team selected eggshell for the walls, and a satin sheen for the trim, doors and cabinets to add a sleek contrast throughout the interior.
In a refreshing twist, the billiards and theater room bucked the off-white trend, with the homeowners opting for a deep, luxurious color, Kendall Charcoal HC-166. They went with a flat sheen on the walls and ceiling to reduce any reflective light, and switched to an eggshell sheen for the doors.

Go for Durability with a Premium Exterior Paint
After deliberating over eight off-white color samples for the home’s exterior, the homeowners chose Regal® Select MoorGard®, a premium exterior paint with a modern low lustre finish in Glacier White OC-37. With its superior adhesion and fade resistance, this coating will keep the home looking freshly painted for years to come.
Choose a Stain with Color Retention that Lets the Wood Shine Through
It wasn’t just paint the homeowners needed for the exterior. They also had to choose various wood stain colors. For the garage doors and the posts and beams on the porch, the homeowners wanted a stain that would offer protection from the elements, while allowing the grain and texture of the wood to come through.
For the garage doors, they chose Woodluxe® Exterior Stain in translucent Cedar ES-40, and went with semi-transparent Cordovan Brown ES-62 for the posts and beams. Woodluxe solid stain is available in thousands of colors. This stain also comes in a variety of opacities*. It provides UV and mildew-resistant coating. *Not all opacities are available in every Woodluxe stain product line.
