71. Does Benjamin Moore offer color consultations?
Yes! Let our experts help you find the perfect color for your paint project with a Benjamin Moore virtual color consultation. From helping you narrow down your paint selection to creating a cohesive color palette for your space, our color & design experts are here to offer you top-tier guidance for bringing confident color into your space. All color consultations include one (1) consultation with a Benjamin Moore Color & Design expert; up to three (3) color schemes; and five (5) to eight (8) 4”x8” Color Swatch samples, depending on your type of consultation. Swatches will be mailed to your home upon completion of your consultation. Please note that color consultations are currently for US residents only.
72. What is color consultation?
A color consultation is a discussion between a homeowner and a color consultant where interior or exterior paint color goals are discussed, and options are suggested to achieve these goals. The color consultation is apt to include talking points such as the desired mood or style, concerns centering on colors that will, or will not, work for the project, and considerations such as coordinating color with existing elements. Many times, color consultations take place in person, however we are offering virtual color consultations for added convenience. Benjamin Moore hosts our color consultations via a Zoom link sent to your email after you book your appointment.
73. How much does a color consultation cost?
Benjamin Moore color consultations cost $50 for one interior color consultation, and $60 for one exterior color consultation, payable via PayPal. After the consultation, an email will be sent with a recap of the conversation. Additionally, between five (5) (for interior projects) and eight (8) (for exterior projects) color swatches in your choice of colors will be mailed to you via USPS.
74. What is the difference between a color consultant and an interior designer?
A color consultation is focused specifically on the colors to be painted on the walls, ceiling, trim, and possibly the cabinetry/millwork in a space. An interior designer has a larger scope of work that may include selecting fabrics, furnishings, window treatments, hardware, floor plan changes, and/or hard materials such as tile/wood/stone, etc.
75. What can I expect from my color consultation?
During your color consultation, your Color & Design consultant will complete pre-work based on the information provided when the appointment is made. This will allow the consultant time to bring ideas together to make the most of the session. During the session, the color consultant will kick off the appointment with a discussion on the space itself, existing elements (furniture, flooring, etc.), and the color goals. The consultant will then share the initial ideas pulled together in advance of the meeting to gather more information on what appeals to the homeowner (or what misses the mark). From there, more colors will be discussed, with the goal of ending the call with three (3) color scheme options that meet the project goals and the color preferences of the homeowner. After the consultation, an email will be sent with a recap of the conversation, and a full color report. Additionally, five (5) (for interior projects) and eight (8) (for exterior projects) color swatches in your choice of color will be mailed to you via USPS.
76. I’m not happy with my consultation—what are my next steps?
You remain responsible for selecting a paint, color and finish that suits your project and for its proper application. The consultation is intended to help you visualize how a color and finish may appear on your project but are not a guarantee of how paint will look once applied nor are they a guarantee of the suitability of any paint for your intended usage. On-screen and printer color may vary from actual paint colors. Further, the actual appearance of applied paint may vary on a number of factors, such as how the paint is applied, lighting, the surface being painted, angle of sight and so on.
Our goal is to help you make confident color decisions. If you are not satisfied with your color consultation, please contact us at VirtualColor@benjaminmoore.com with details on where the color consultation did not meet your level of satisfaction as soon as possible.
77. What is your cancellation policy?
Consultations must be cancelled at least 48 hours prior to the scheduled appointment to be eligible for a full refund. Cancellations made after the 48-hour mark are subject to a 50% service fee, with a 50% refund.
78. What is your rescheduling policy?
Appointments can be rescheduled without penalty up to 48 hours prior to the scheduled appointment time. Due to scheduling availability and respect to our color consultants, rescheduling appointments is not available within 48 hours of your scheduled appointment.
79. What is your “no show” policy?
While we understand that emergencies happen, our color consultants spend hours of their time preparing for virtual consultations. Clients who “no show” on their appointments without notice will be charged the full consultation fee with no rescheduling option.
80. Who are Benjamin Moore color consultants?
All Benjamin Moore Color & Design experts, also known as our color consultants, have experience in various design disciplines, in addition to extensive experience working with the Benjamin Moore color collections. Our consultants contribute regularly to various media outlets, training opportunities and other venues where color guidance and expertise are desired.
81. Why do you need images of my space?
Photos are the best way for us to understand your space and provide colored renderings so you can preview the finished look. By getting a feel for the space and the existing elements, our consultants will be able to understand the lighting and other factors that have a substantial effect on color selection. These details will help in reaching color selections that are right for the space, while helping customers move closer to making color decisions.
82. Why do I need to fill out a form? Won’t I be able to give my consultant information about my project during our session?
You’ll likely discuss some of the information included on your consultation form with our consultant, but prior to the appointment your consultant will spend time evaluating colors that will work in your home. By doing pre-work based on the answers shared on the questionnaire, your consultation will be focused on colors that are apt to work in your home, bringing you closer to a color decision. The more detail that can be provided, the better.
83. Can I go to a retailer for this service?
Many Benjamin Moore retailers offer color consulting services in-store and are happy to arrange a face-to-face meeting. Our program is a virtual option that provides access to a Color & Design expert when getting to a store is not possible, or when a virtual meeting is preferable.
84. Are you affiliated with specific Benjamin Moore retailers?
This program is not affiliated with a specific retailer, however as part of your post-consultation package you will receive information on the name and location of the closest Benjamin Moore retailers to you.
85. How do I contact my consultant after our meeting?
After the color consultation, your consultant will reach out with an email recap of the meeting, so you have a record of which colors were discussed during the appointment. After the consultation, you will receive five (5) (for interior projects) and eight (8) (for exterior projects) color swatches in your choice of colors will be mailed to you via USPS.
86. Can I choose an in-person meeting? Can I have a consultant come to my home?
Our color consultations are strictly virtual. If you prefer an in-person meeting, we suggest reaching out to a local Benjamin Moore independent retailer to see if they offer in-home color consulting services.
87. Do you recommend products?
We provide general information on suggested products with links to excellent product information resources on benjaminmoore.com. If there are specific substrates that require specialty products, please include that information in your appointment questionnaire.
88. I did a consult for one room—now I want to do the rest of the house. Can I get a discount?
Currently, our consultations are for a single space, and we are not offering discounts for additional rooms. Should our team decide to add whole-home or multiple-room consultations to our services, we will email past clients to let them know.
89. How many color swatches will I receive?
Customers will receive between five (5) (for interior projects) and eight (8) (for exterior projects) complimentary swatches measuring 4” x 8” after the color consultation (up to a $20.00 value, $2.50 per sample). The swatches will arrive via USPS and a tracking number will be sent once the samples are shipped.
90. I would rather buy wet samples—can I get a discount?
Our half pint samples are available online or in-store at a local Benjamin Moore retailer. At various points in the year we have promotional offers, however we are not offering discounts directly tied to the Virtual Color Consulting program at this time.
91. I was happy with my initial color consult, but I do not like the colors in my space. Can I get a rebate?
Unfortunately, we do not offer rebates or refunds if a customer does not like the color they selected. During the color consultation the consultant will offer three options for your space, leaving the final decision to the customer. To make sure you’ve selected a color you love, we encourage you to sample your colors before you paint with them. Benjamin Moore offers a range of paint samples so you can eliminate the stress of wrong choices, and instead focus on the transformative power that a fresh coat of color brings to your home.
92. What is the best way to take a photo for my color consultation?
High quality, high-resolution photos are the best choice for your consultation. Phone cameras are acceptable, so long as they provide photos at 72dpi. Aim for 1250 pixels in width or height—the bigger the image, the better the rendering.
Ensure the room has good lighting, with natural lighting preferred. The room should be clean and clear from distraction, but leave the items that will stay in the room, such as artwork, window treatments, and rugs. Try to capture the overall room, showing floor to ceiling when possible—landscape photos generally work better than portrait shots.
If you cannot capture the full room, provide multiple photos capturing different areas of the room. Should you add on a digital color rendering to your appointment, we will select the photo that works best.
93. How can I obtain a digital rendering of my space?
For an even better color consultation experience, we offer an optional image rendering service, which can be added to your consultation for an additional $30. This includes a virtual rendering of your space featuring the color schemes discussed with your Benjamin Moore color consultant. To add an image rendering to your consultation, please check the “Image Rendering” add-on box at the time of scheduling. A photo of your space is REQUIRED for a rendering. If you choose to add a rendering to your Virtual Color Consultation, you will receive one (1) photo rendered in the three (3) different color schemes discussed during your call. Image renderings are sent via email 5-7 business days after the consultation.
94. Can I get an additional rendering after the consultation?
Clients are limited to one (1) $30 add-on rendering per appointment, however clients may ask for one (1) round of revision with three (3) additional color schemes for an additional $30 service fee. The revisions must use the same image from the initial rendering. Clients may specify exact colors, ask our experts to come up with more color schemes or a combination of both. If you’d like to see other colors in your space, Benjamin Moore offers the Color a Room tool, where customers can upload an image, mask the surfaces to be painted, and drop in paint colors for consideration. We also offer the Benjamin Moore Color Portfolio® app, which lets you apply paint color to photos of your space, access fan decks, match favorite hues to Benjamin Moore colors and more.
95. Can I get extra swatches?
Color consultation packages include between five (5) (for interior projects) and eight (8) (for exterior projects) color swatches. Additional color samples, including swatch and peel & stick formats, are available for purchase in all colors via our online store.
96: Can I get additional help after my scheduled consultation?
We understand some renovation projects take longer than others. While we will try our best to accommodate your needs, we consider projects closed after six (6) months from your original appointment. Additional help will require another consultation.
