Tapping Into Island Elegance
Interior designer Michael Kramer, founder of New York City-based Michael Thomas & Co., was tasked with capturing the coastal chic hallmark of Nantucket. With a portfolio bursting with luxe seaside looks and a background in hospitality design, he was the perfect choice.Taking inspiration from Lilly Pulitzer’s colorful designs, Kramer created rich island escapes featuring a distinct floral identity and fashion-forward vibe. “We wanted these cottages to feel like garden parties you never want to leave,” Kramer said about the project. “They’re playful but sophisticated, designed for the guest who wants luxury and personality in equal measure.”

Where Pattern Meets Pigment
Pattern and paint are the perfect pair, especially when it comes to interior design. In this one-bedroom cottage, bold wallcoverings from Lilly Pulitzer and Lee Jofa are buoyed by ceiling, trim, and doors painted in Bird’s Egg 2051-60, a charming, refreshing hue. The result is a space full of depth and personality. To get the look in any space, try one of these stunning blues:

A Monochrome Moment
In the one-bedroom cottage’s living room, Bird’s Egg 2051-60 once again takes center stage, wrapping the walls, ceiling, and trim in a soft, tonal glow. Paired with coastal greenery, natural fibers, and chic art and accents—including a photograph of Lilly Pulitzer herself—the color acts as both backdrop and main character, proving that a monochromatic color scheme can make a definitive statement.Knowing that the cottages would see high turnover, especially in the summer months, Kramer opted to use Regal® Select Interior paint—known for its durability and washability—to elevate every surface with the perfect color to complement and enhance the surrounding design.

Fresh Takes on Ceilings
Nicknamed “the fifth wall” by interior designers, ceilings are a great place to experiment with color, and Kramer took that to heart in designing The Nantucket Hotel cottages. In this bedroom—one of two in a larger, two-bedroom cottage—the Chicago Blues 804 ceiling becomes a canvas of its own. Surrounded by Lee Jofa’s Costa Verde wallcovering, this grounded, saturated hue offers a moment of calm while adding dimension and a touch of the unexpected to the overall space.Other bold hues we love for ceilings include:

A Natural Fit: Neutrals & More
Repeat after us: Neutrals are never out of style. For the living area of the two-bedroom cottage, Kramer chose Straw Hat 270, a dark, rustic tan reminiscent of the wide-brimmed hats you see frequently on Nantucket. This versatile shade offers the perfect canvas for layers of vibrant color, allowing the room’s bold prints and playful accents to stand out.Fabric and wallcoverings done in She’s Got Sol complete the visual narrative with expressive, textured detail, while the hat hanging from the wall is both a nod to beachy style and the room’s paint color.
